Zone 7 has been created to enhance streetscape amenities and improve accessibility to the Lathlain Precinct through various infrastructure upgrades. Once the wide project is complete, there is expected to be an increase in both vehicle and pedestrian traffic as the wider and local community makes use of the features available.
The focus for the Equitable Access project is upgrading the roads surrounding Lathlain Park including McCartney Crescent, Goddard Street, Roberts Road, Bishopsgate Street and providing connectivity to the Victoria Park Train Station to promote the use of public transport to the area.
What work will take place?
Reconfiguration of parking along McCartney Crescent, Goddard Street, Bishopsgate Street and Roberts Road to maximise parking options.
Provision of wider footpaths, additional landscaping and trees for shade, public seating, bicycle paths and bicycle parking infrastructure along the surrounding roads to improve pedestrian and bicycle access.
Traffic management devices along McCartney Crescent, Goddard Street, Bishopsgate Street and Roberts Road including the intersections are also key elements.
How will extra traffic be accommodated?
Once the Lathlain Precinct project is complete, it is expected that there will be some increase in traffic in the area, as more people come to use and enjoy the facilities available to the community. Current parking will be reconfigured to maximise its use, but there will be a strong emphasis on improving public transport and encouraging walking and cycling. Cycle lanes have already been installed on peripheral streets starting with Bishopsgate Street, and new lighting, footpaths and streetscape improvements are being planned for other roads surrounding the oval.
