How does this project fit within the vision and mission of the Town?
The Lathlain Place Streetscape Upgrade is an example of how the Town intends to achieve its Vision: “Victoria Park │ Vibrant Lifestyle”. The central premise of this project is to upgrade the streetscape to help make Lathlain Place a more focal and vibrant place. The project has also been influenced by the four key components of the Town’s Mission: • Creativity…that we will embrace and live • Attractiveness…of the Town to people and businesses • Friendliness…through welcoming and listening • Environmental…sustainability that is reflected in the way we make decisions.
Why Lathlain Place?
Lathlain Place is the link between Lathlain Park and Rayment Park and the Lathlain Primary School. The street is home to a number of successful small businesses, includes a thriving community meeting place, and is where a new community centre has now been built. Given it is centrally located to all these things it made sense to upgrade it to be a more people and user-friendly area.
What are the objectives of upgrading Lathlain Place?
Upgrading the Lathlain Place streetscape has focused on: • providing more people-friendly public spaces along the street to be enjoyed and used by businesses, residents, visitors and community groups; • making the passage between Lathlain Park and Rayment Park as pedestrian friendly as possible; and • slowing down motorists who use Lathlain Place.
Have there been any changes to the Concept Plan?
There were changes to the Concept Plan. These include: • Increased the number of street trees along the southern verge of Lathlain Place (the side of the street where the Scouts building and the new Community Building will be located). • No street trees where there are shop awnings. • The introduction of a rammed earth wall in the widened median.
