Federal Government commits funding for Perth Football Club redevelopment
November 15, 2018
Federal Member for Swan Steve Irons announced today that the Federal Government will invest $4 million to kick start the redevelopment of the Perth Football Club facilities as part of the next phase of the Lathlain Precinct Redevelopment Project.
Mayor Trevor Vaughan welcomed the news at a public announcement at the Perth Football Club headquarters.
“We’d like to thank Steve Irons for his tireless efforts in raising the development at Lathlain Park to the attention of those in Canberra, and thanks to the Federal Government for their commitment of funding to the Perth Football Club.
“Perth Football Club forms Zone 1 in the Town of Victoria Park’s $60 million Lathlain Precinct Redevelopment Project. It is the final piece of the puzzle for the project and the grant from the Federal Government is the stimulus needed to get work underway for a serious focus in 2019.
“This zone includes a new facility to meet a variety of purposes including football administration, training, community functions and club facilities. Redevelopment of the site will complement the overall Lathlain Precinct redevelopment, achieving more multi-purpose and community-focused outcomes.
“It will be a social infrastructure anchor, with a broadening need for women’s football, country regional links, and Aboriginal and cultural diversity community programs.
“The current facilities are past their use-by dates, and do not meet current codes and accessibility needs. We’re excited for the potential of what can be developed for the Perth Football Club and the broader community.”
